War of the Worlds The War of the Worlds was an episode of the American radio drama anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air. Directed by Orson Welles, the episode was an adaptation of H. G. Wells' classic novel The War of the Worlds (1898), and was performed as a Halloween special on October 30, 1938. To commemorate this occasion, glittercat13 and I watched the 2005 version of War of the Worlds. Somehow, I couldn't find it scary. I wish I could have experienced the original radio program. I bet I would feel differently. Current Mood: contemplative |

Mythbusters Spoof I went to Phx for Thanksgiving this year. I was at my Aunt Maurine and Uncle Wayne's house with my Aunt Marsha (Wayne's sister) and 2 cousins and various offspring and my brother, Don and his wife, Lori. Anyway, we watched this video done by 2 of my cousin's boys. Mythbusters Spoof It was for a contest sponsored by The Discovery Channel. Guess what? My cousin's boys won! I am so proud. Ping nitroace I am going to make pizza tonight. What are some of your favorite pizza making tips? What is the best temperature for the home oven baker? Would you "pre-cook" the dough a little so it bakes through? Any ingredients I should avoid? Thanks! |

Clothes I don't consider myself a clothes kind of person. I really have no interest in fashion or current trends.
So, how did I come to have so many clothes?
I am in the process of weeding my closet. It is taking me weeks to do this. I am finally getting things to Goodwill that have been stored in my closet for years. And barely a dent has been made in the amount of clothes that I have.
How many pairs of pants does one person need? Or shirts? Or dresses? And this doesn't even go into the costume items that I am storing.
Some of the items I have I am emotionally attached to. I have no use for my Dad's Navy Uniform, but I can't seem to part with it. If anyone needs a Navy Uniform for a play, let me know. I would consider loaning it out.
Other things are projects waiting for me to do them. I have had an idea for a denim quilt for everyday use for the trunk of the car. The idea is to have something to sit on if I find myself at the beach or in a park. Not that I have been at either for quite a while. But it would be in the trunk to use. Except for the fact I haven't made it yet. This quilt idea accounts for 2 storage boxes in my bedroom.
I am determined. I will unearth my furniture in my bedroom. I will see the clean surface of my 2 chests of drawers!
Onward!

Continuing Story of Good Bad Luck I have had a couple of instances of good bad luck. Christian borrowed the Altima to go to Las Vegas for Casey's wedding. Oh, and he paid November's rent before he left. On his return the car started running really hot. A trip to AutoZone and they got a "stop leak" product and made it back to North Hollywood safely.
Sooo, in to the mechanic the Altima goes. Turned out to need the radiator replaced. To to tune of $388.00, which I happened to have because Christian just paid his Nov rent.
Secondly, there were layoffs at work yesterday. And even tho my job is what it is, I survived. I am not sure if that is good bad luck or bad good luck. Although I am going to be updating my resume.
Oh, the results were 20% of the Info Tech staff were let go. |

Christmas stuff out before Halloween It is getting bad. I was in 3 stores yesterday. Each one had HUGE Christmas displays out. It is sad really. Sometimes I think "Brazil" is right. We will end up with Christmas 12 months a year and terrorist bombings just an ordinary event. *sigh* Current Mood: cynical |

Killer Shrimp KILLER SHRIMP From Melinda Lee's webpage Here is a recipe, unearthed by popular demand, for an easy, festive dish. It’s a “knock-off” of the dish served in the two eponymous “Killer Shrimp” restaurants. This is, by necessity, a make-ahead dish: the shrimp must be refrigerated in the sauce for several hours before cooking, but it’s a snap to put together, and quick to bring forth at serving time. I vote for the “soupier” version described in the note following the recipe - that way, there are tasty juices to mop up with the French bread - but without the extra sauce, the shrimp can be served with toothpicks as an appetizer. Family Drama I am feeling a bit shaky at the moment. My extended biological family is having health problems. My Aunt Mary has been hospitalized for several months now with cancer. She has developed an infection. Today I received word that she is going into hospice care. She is no longer going to receive Chemo. I know we all have to reach the end of our lives, but it is painful to see a loved one go through. Secondly, my brother-in-law, Miles had a close call. He has been battling Hepatitas-C. As a result he has varices (they are like varicose veins in the esophagus caused by arterial pressure due to poor circulation of blood through the liver). Well, he had one rupture and he was vomiting blood. He went into surgery for the Dr to try to bypass the main artery to the liver with a stent using a procedure called (Tips). Luckily the surgery was successful and he is at home resting. If he has a repeat of the varices rupturing, there may be nothing the Dr.'s can do. I am really sad and upset and feeling very helpless. So if I am not my normal cheerful self, you will have to understand. |

My Political Standing
Paleo-Liberal You scored 65% Personal Liberty and 45% Economic Liberty! |
| A paleo-liberal believes in low to moderate government intervention on personal matters and moderate government intervention on economic matters. They tend to be opposed to war, police powers and victimless crimes. They believe in a social safety net, but to a lesser extent then most leftists. They generally believe in protecting personal liberty. They support self-ownership and privacy. Some Paleo-liberals may lean towards embracing capitalism as an economic system. Paleo-liberals are reminiscent of the attitude of the "new left" of the 60's and 70's. Strong Paleo-Liberals border on Libertarianism. |

My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:
|
You scored higher than 99% on Personal |

You scored higher than 99% on Economic |

Opinion, Anyone? I am rather uneducated in wine. I know some, but I know that others here know more. For Conjecture, I am giving Karl a birthday party for his birthday on Sat.30th. *Yes, that is the actual day of his birthday* And I have decided the theme is "Things that get better with Age". Which means a wine & cheese type of party. So, I know I like Gewürztraminer and will be bringing that. What other choices would be good and people would enjoy? p.s. Please feel free to bring a bottle if you like. ;) Current Mood: curious |

Still Alive I just wanted to let everyone know I am still alive. After LAconIV, I was exhausted. Everybody was exhausted. It took a week to make it up to tired. I didn't see any of the convention. As far as I know, I ran a 7 day room party. Maybe there was a convention going on around it, but I didn't know. Thoughts from the Con - I am in love with Mr. Shirt. Not in a romantic way, more a maternal way. But if I had my pick of people on a tropical island, he would be one of them. On the romantic, John & Robbie kept talking about James from Ireland. Now I understand why. A charming man with an Irish brogue. I told Karl that Karl could have competition for me if James were more local. *wink* Speaking on males, I want to see Brad Achorn find a girl worthy of him. He's cute, intelligent, and shy. But such a character if you get him talking. I did see many people come through the Staff Lounge, but I missed a few favorites. I am planning on being at Conjecture and maybe see some I missed. Speaking of Conjecture, it just so happens that Sep.30th is Karl's birthday. I wrote the party contact off the webpage for Conjecture and haven't heard back if I can get a room on the party floor for a birthday party for Karl on Saturday night. I am still hoping that we can get a room and have a room party for Karl. If you are thinking about coming to Conjecture, I hope you do and wish Karl a Happy Birthday. Current Mood: happy |
